  • Where do your tours leave from?
Our tours leave from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Skye and central Scotland as standard. However, other areas of Scotland can be requested. We offer door to door pick up and drop off at your accommodation.
  • What is included in the price of our tour?
The price given includes your driver tour guide, drivers accommodation & overnight expenses (Multi Day Tours), use of our luxurious minivans, fuel costs, tolls, parking, taxes (20%) and insurances. Complimentary bottled water and is also provided for all guests.
  • Why is it better to book on the website rather than booking platforms such as Viator or Get Your Guide?
Booking direct on the website offers huge savings compared to booking through a third party such as Viator or Get Your Guide. This is purely down to how much commission we have to pay these sites which is sometimes as high as 30%. We would rather pass this saving on to you the customer.
  • How long are the tours?
Day tours can be between 8-12 hours long, or a half day 4-6 hours. Skye tours can be 9-10 hours each day. Multi Day tours can vary depending on locations but wouldn’t usually last longer than 9 - 10 hours each day/
  • Can we do a whisky tour?
We will always have time for whisky! Although to do a whisky tour you may need to book ahead as the tours sell out weeks in advance. We can always visit the distilleries and do their tasting experiences. Please contact our admin and inform them when you book that this is something you would like to do,
  • Who will be our driver guide?
The majority of the tours will be carried out by John who founded Macleod Heilan Tours but he also has a small team of local experienced driver guides for the 2025 season who have extensive knowledge of Scotland. Your guide will be assigned as it gets closer to the tour.
  • When should we book the tour?
Day tours can be booked up to 24 hours before the departure date. Multi day tours we recommend booking around 12 weeks before the travel date to ensure there is availability on accommodation and ferries if needed. Low Season (Nov- March) is easier to arrange lodgings and can be a nice time to visit.
  • What is the most popular tour?
Our tours are designed to appeal to different tastes so this can be subjective but for our signature Isle of Skye tours we recommend booking the 4 day tour to ensure that you have the time to enjoy the most popular sites on the island.

If you cancel your reservation 14 days before departure date a full refund will be given minus the 20% non-refundable deposit. https://www.macleodheilantours.com/terms-conditions Shore excursions benefit from an insurance policy that for whatever reason the ship fails to make port then you will receive all but the deposit back. (we will still need to pay costs which the deposit will help cover)

Payment links and invoices allow all major credit/debit cards and also Android/Apple Pay for your convenience. Please don't book multi day tours until you have accommodation arranged and we can check if there is ferries if applicable.

  • Who books accommodation for us?
We don't book accommodation for your multi day tours but can make reccoemdndations. Each overnight tour will have a requested location to book overnight stays. We have accommodation providers on places such as Skye that can give our guests better rates and late rooms if available.
  • Why don't you book our accommodation?
UK regulations state that tour operators must be bonded to book accommodation on the clients behalf with approved bodies such as ABTOT or ABTA. As we are a small family sized tour provider we currently do not have a bond in place. Most small operators aren't bonded and as such cant offer this. If booking with any other small operator we recommend checking their bond status before booking any tour that offers overnight stays included in the price.
  • Can children come on tour?
Yes, We welcome children on board! Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We don't recommend coming on tour with children under 2. Children must normally use a child car seat until they’re 12 years old OR 135 centimetres tall.
  • Why don’t you include the cost of attractions in your price?
We don’t include any entry tickets into attractions to give you the freedom to decide what attractions you’d like to visit. While some guests like to explore the area around the attractions, others choose to inside. Leaving this down to choice it gives better value to the tour. Any attractions that must be booked in advance we will advise and if preferred we can book this for you with a small administration fee. See here for more details
  • What is the cancellation policy?
In the event your ship is unable to dock for whatever reason – you will receive a full refund miss the 20% deposit.
