On Tour
1. For all set tours you can check our availability on our website and book online, or contact us to book this manually. Any changes to the itinerary on our set tours, please check with us first before booking.
*We always recommend getting in touch before booking tours just to ensure the tour is right for you and to guarantee availability.*
2. Any tours that require overnight accommodation and/or ferries, please do not book until we confirm availability for our driver and ensure you have sufficient lodgings secured.
3. For bespoke/custom tours, we will calculate the route and time needed for the tour then send you a quote. After sending this we will hold the requested dates up to 48 hours until acceptance and a deposit is then paid to secure the dates (please see our 2025 price guide). We will only plan a basic route until a deposit is paid, then we will plan the tour with a more detailed route with attraction suggestions etc along the way.
4. To confirm a tour booking we take a 20% non-refundable deposit which secures the date(s) and covers our admin costs and any additional costs such as ferries for the entire booking. You have the option to pay in full at the time of booking or pay with a deposit (20%). The remaining balance will be due no later than 4 weeks before the tour start date.
5. When making a booking our booking system will add a service fee of 2% to the total cost. (Manual bank transfer payments can be done without a fee - please contact us if this is preferred and we can issue an invoice)
6. We can arrange payment plans by requests otherwise the payments will be split into deposit and outstanding balance.
7. Our reservation system (WeTravel) offers payment in your own origin currency to reduce costs. Fees vary depending on payment method with banks transfers such as ACH (USA) BACS (UK) SEPA Direct Debit (EUR) free of charge. All major cards such as AMEX Mastercard and Visa accepted.
8. Once payment is made our reservation system (WeTravel) will generate a receipt to confirm payment has been made and will send this electronically to the customer.
9. Driver Guides will be assigned to a tour nearer the time of the tour date and will be selected on availability but if you would like to request a certain guide please let us know at the booking process and we can try our best to assign the driver guide where possible.
Macleod Heilan Tours Price Guide 2026
We offer two types of tours: set tours and custom tours.
Set tours are pre-planned with fixed routes, while custom tours are tailored to your specific preferences.
We can accommodate up to 8 passengers per vehicle, but larger groups can be accommodated by using additional vehicles or hiring larger vehicles, depending on availability.
Both set and custom tours can start and end at different locations in Scotland. For example, you could start the tour in Edinburgh and end in Inverness, which may incur additional costs depending on the tour. This can be popular if you’re connecting from London to Inverness.
Please see below for pricing and information about set and advertised tours, as well as bespoke tours.
Set Tours
Benefits of set tours:
- Routes are already planned out and available on our website.
- These tours offer better value than bespoke tours because they require less planning.
- For multi-day set tours, you must ensure there is accommodation available before booking online. We can advise you on booking accommodation if required.
We have many set tours available on our website. The total price for the set-out itinerary, including ferries, is priced depending on the number of passengers onboard. (Use the booking calendar to get the most up-to-date price.)
For our set tours to locations such as Skye, Mull, Islay, and Orkney, the tour itinerary includes travel to and from the island, with the days on the island flexible depending on the group’s interests. This can be discussed before the tour or planned with the guide on the day.

Booking direct on the website offers huge savings compared to booking through a third party such as Viator or Get Your Guide. This is purely down to how much commission we have to pay these sites which is sometimes as high as 30%. We would rather pass this saving on to you the customer.
Day tours can be between 8-12 hours long, or a half day 4-6 hours.
Skye tours can be 9-10 hours each day.
Multi Day tours can vary depending on locations but wouldn’t usually last longer than 9 - 10 hours each day/
We will always have time for whisky! Although to do a whisky tour you may need to book ahead as the tours sell out weeks in advance. We can always visit the distilleries and do their tasting experiences. Please contact our admin and inform them when you book that this is something you would like to do,
We have a small team of experienced driver guides for the 2025 season who have extensive knowledge of Scotland.
Day tour that start on Skye are usually done by local guides who have lived on Skye for many years and can tell stories you won't find with many other tour companies.
Your guide will be assigned as it gets closer to the tour but if you would like to request a particular guide we will try our best to do this. (This is not always possible with many guides having personal and family commitments)
Day tours can be booked up to 24 hours before the departure date.
Multi day tours we recommend booking around 12 weeks before the travel date to ensure there is availability on accommodation and ferries if needed.
Low Season (Nov- March) is easier to arrange lodgings and can be a nice time to visit.
Our tours are designed to appeal to different tastes so this can be subjective but for our signature Isle of Skye tours we recommend booking the 4 day tour to ensure that you have the time to enjoy the most popular sites on the island.
