Tour Itinerary

Tour Itinerary

Discover the magic of Scotland — from the dramatic Highlands and enchanting Isle of Skye to the breathtaking beaches of Harris and the ancient heritage of Lewis. Join us on an unforgettable six-day journey through some of Scotland’s most spectacular landscapes. From majestic mountains and historic castles to turquoise waters, traditional island villages, and prehistoric standing stones, this tour offers a wonderful blend of natural beauty, Scottish history, and authentic Highland culture. Day 1: Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye – Discover the Scottish Highlands Our adventure begins in Edinburgh as we travel north into the magnificent Scottish Highlands. Enjoy a scenic journey through charming Highland towns, dramatic mountain landscapes, and beautiful freshwater lochs. An optional stop in Callander offers an opportunity to enjoy lunch before continuing to Kilmahog, where you can meet Scotland’s famous Highland cows, affectionately known as hairy coos. Take photographs and, where available, enjoy the opportunity to feed these iconic animals. We’ll pause at Loch Lubnaig for photographs before travelling through the spectacular Glencoe region, renowned for its towering mountains, breathtaking valleys, and fascinating history. We’ll continue towards Fort William, with an opportunity for lunch or a brief stop depending on the day’s schedule. Our journey then takes us towards the legendary Loch Ness area before reaching the magnificent Eilean Donan Castle. Set on a small island surrounded by dramatic Highland scenery, this iconic castle is one of Scotland’s most photographed landmarks. Enjoy time for photographs or opt to explore the castle interior, subject to opening arrangements. We’ll arrive at our tour accommodation at approximately 5:30 p.m., ready to relax before the next day’s island adventure. Day 2: Isle of Skye – Dramatic Landscapes and Coastal Wonders Today, we explore the extraordinary Isle of Skye, famous for its rugged mountains, mystical landscapes, and spectacular coastal viewpoints. Our first stop is Sligachan Old Bridge, where a historic stone bridge frames wonderful views of the Cuillin mountains. We’ll then visit Portree, Skye’s colourful harbour town, where you can enjoy the waterfront, browse local shops, and take in the island atmosphere. For those seeking adventure, the famous Old Man of Storr offers an opportunity to hike towards one of Scotland’s most recognisable rock formations. Alternatively, enjoy the scenery from a suitable viewpoint. We’ll continue to Kilt Rock, where towering cliffs resemble the pleats of a traditional Scottish kilt, before visiting the remarkable Quiraing landscape, with its unusual rock formations, dramatic ridges, and panoramic views. Our exploration continues at Fairy Glen, a captivating landscape of grassy hills and winding paths that feels like something from a storybook. In the late afternoon, we’ll travel to Uig Ferry Port to board our scheduled evening ferry, around 6:00 p.m. Sit back, enjoy the sea views, and relax as we continue our journey. Dinner is best enjoyed onboard the ferry. Day 3: Isle of Harris – White-Sand Beaches and Island Heritage Discover the breathtaking beauty of the Isle of Harris, where white-sand beaches meet turquoise waters and rugged coastlines reveal the wild character of the Outer Hebrides. We’ll visit the spectacular Luskentyre Beach, one of Scotland’s most celebrated coastal destinations. Its expansive sands, clear waters, and mountain backdrop create unforgettable views and wonderful photographic opportunities. Our journey continues to Sgarasta Mhor and the historic St Clement’s Church at Rodel, a remarkable medieval building associated with the MacLeods of Harris. Explore its fascinating stonework and discover an important part of the island’s heritage. We’ll also visit a seal-viewing viewpoint, where you may spot seals resting along the shoreline or swimming in the surrounding waters. Next, we’ll travel along the famous Golden Road, a scenic route winding through the rocky eastern landscape of Harris. This part of the island offers a striking contrast to its sandy western beaches, with rugged terrain, scattered crofting settlements, and beautiful coastal views. Depending on the schedule, we’ll visit the Harris Distillery in Tarbert, where you can discover more about the island’s distilling heritage. We’ll then continue to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis for our overnight accommodation. If time permits, enjoy some free time exploring the town, visiting Lews Castle, or discovering the island’s celebrated Harris Tweed heritage. Day 4: Isle of Lewis – Ancient Stones and Traditional Island Life Today, we discover the rich history, archaeological treasures, and dramatic coastal scenery of the Isle of Lewis. We’ll depart our accommodation at approximately 9:00 a.m. and begin exploring this remarkable island, home to some of Scotland’s most fascinating prehistoric monuments and traditional settlements. Our visit to the Calanais Standing Stones offers a memorable encounter with ancient history. Erected around 5,000 years ago, these remarkable stones form one of the most important prehistoric monuments in Scotland. Their striking arrangement and mysterious origins continue to fascinate visitors from around the world. We may also visit Dun Carloway Broch, an impressive Iron Age stone structure that provides a glimpse into the lives of Scotland’s early inhabitants. At the Carloway Mill, discover the craftsmanship behind Harris Tweed, the world-famous fabric traditionally woven by islanders in their homes. Guided tours generally last around 90 minutes and cost approximately £15 per person, with advance booking required. Shorter tours may be available on selected weekdays, subject to confirmation. We’ll continue to Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, where restored traditional homes illustrate how island communities once lived and adapted to the challenging Atlantic climate. Seasonal closures apply, so an alternative visit to the historic Black House at Arnol may be arranged where appropriate. Another highlight is Clach an Truiseil, an impressive standing stone offering a wonderful opportunity for photographs. At approximately 2:00 p.m., we’ll visit the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, situated on the island’s rugged northern coastline. Enjoy the dramatic Atlantic views, fresh sea air, and striking scenery at this remote and memorable destination. Later, we’ll return to Stornoway for free time between approximately 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Explore the town, browse local shops, enjoy a café, or visit Lews Castle if time and opening arrangements allow. We expect to return to our accommodation at approximately 7:00 p.m. Day 5: Lewis to Inverness – Waterfalls, Gorges and Highland Scenery We’ll leave the Outer Hebrides behind and journey towards Inverness, enjoying more of Scotland’s spectacular landscapes along the way. Our first stop is Ullapool, a picturesque harbour town nestled beside Loch Broom and surrounded by mountains. Take time to enjoy the waterfront, explore the town, and perhaps stop for refreshments. We’ll then visit Corrieshalloch Gorge, an impressive natural gorge carved by glacial meltwater. The dramatic landscape, rushing river, and spectacular waterfalls make this a wonderful stop for nature lovers and photographers. Depending on time and conditions, we may also visit Rogie Falls, a beautiful woodland waterfall with walking routes suited to different schedules. Choose a shorter walk or enjoy a longer exploration of the surrounding scenery if time permits. Our journey continues through the magnificent Highland countryside towards Inverness, the cultural capital of the Highlands. We expect to arrive at our Inverness accommodation between approximately 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. The scheduled driver service concludes on arrival, leaving the remainder of the day free for you to explore the city at your own pace. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the River Ness, discover the city centre, browse the shops, or relax at one of the local cafés and restaurants. Day 6: Culloden, Ancient History and the Cairngorms – Return to Edinburgh or Glasgow Our final day brings together Scotland’s fascinating history and the spectacular scenery of the Cairngorms. We’ll begin at Culloden Battlefield, the site of the historic Battle of Culloden in 1746. This decisive conflict marked the end of the Jacobite uprising and had a profound impact on Highland history. Explore the battlefield and, if you wish, visit the visitor centre to learn more about the events and people who shaped this important chapter in Scotland’s past. Next, we’ll visit Clava Cairns, an atmospheric prehistoric site featuring ancient burial cairns, standing stones, and stone circles dating back approximately 4,000 years. These remarkable monuments offer a fascinating connection to Scotland’s distant past. We’ll then travel through the magnificent Cairngorms National Park, enjoying scenic stops selected according to the day’s schedule, weather, and road conditions. A lunch stop in Aviemore provides an opportunity to relax and enjoy this popular Highland town, surrounded by mountains and forests. Our journey continues to Pitlochry, a charming Highland town where we’ll pause for refreshments and a comfort break before travelling south. Finally, we’ll return to Edinburgh or Glasgow, with an anticipated arrival between approximately 5:30 and 6:00 p.m., depending on the destination and traffic conditions. As our six-day adventure comes to an end, you’ll have experienced Scotland’s dramatic Highland scenery, historic castles, enchanting islands, beautiful beaches, traditional communities, and remarkable ancient monuments.
